Scottish Civil Justice Council membership

Ian Maxwell, the National Manager of Families Need Fathers Scotland, has been reappointed as one of the two consumer representative members of the Scottish Civil Justice Council (SCJC) for the next three years.  This is his second term on the SCJC, having been originally appointed in May 2013. He is also a member of the Council's Family Law and Access to Justice committees.

The SCJC is responsible for preparing draft rules of procedure for the Court of Session and for civil proceedings in the sheriff court. It also has the function of providing advice and making recommendations to the Lord President on the development of the civil justice system in Scotland. Chaired by the Lord President, its membership includes judges, sheriff principals and sheriffs, advocates and lawyers. In addition, the Chief Executives of the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and the Scottish Legal Aid Board and a member of staff of the Scottish Government hold standing appointments.

The SCJC will continue its work on advising and making recommendations on the development of and changes to the civil justice system in Scotland, including a review of all court rules and development of proposals to improve case management.
