Birthday boost for FNF Scotland

Crimond farmer, Eck Cowie, was determined to celebrate his 65th birthday in style last month but instead of piling up presents he asked guests to make a donation to Families Need Fathers Scotland.

In the event, 105 family and friends turned up at his party at the Ban-car hotel. Even Eck and his family were stunned at their generosity that raised £1,720 for the charity that offers support and advice to anyone experiencing child contact difficulties after parents separate.

Eck says, “A lot of people find themselves struggling to keep contact with their children or grandchildren when there's a separation. It's really a tragedy. It's not the kids' fault when parents split up. A lot of people need a lot of help. I just thought not enough people know about the work that Families Need Fathers Scotland does and I wanted to help get them better known.”

National manager of FNF Scotland, Ian Maxwell, says, “We were stunned at the generosity of Eck's family and friends. We're very grateful that the donation will help us expand our network of local groups and continue to provide a service for the many calls we get to our Edinburgh office every week. All the research shows that children do better if they can keep a good relationship with both parents – and both extended families – after separation. It is important that both parents understand their obligation to promote a healthy relationship between their children and the other parent rather than battle over them.”

The Aberdeen FNF group meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at Queens Cross Church, Albyn Place, Aberdeen. The next meeting will be on 21st June. For further information contact scotland@fnf.org.uk or telephone 0131 557 2440.
